Dr. Jan Hontelez

Jan Hontelez received his PhD in February 2013 on the thesis ' The impact of antiretroviral therapy on HIV in South Africa'. He is affiliated at both NICHE and the Department of Public Health at the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam,

Jan continues on the same line of research. He is now working on mathematical modeling of HIV in South Africa, with a focus on the impact of treatment on HIV epidemic dynamics, in cooperation with the Africa Centre for Health and Population studies in rural KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. 

Jan received his BSc in biomedical sciences in 2007, and his MSc in epidemiology in 2009, both at the Radboud University, Nijmegen, the Netherlands. During his studies, Jan worked on syphilis (The Gambia, West Africa), Hepatitis B (National Institute of Public Health, the Netherlands) and breast cancer control policies in developing countries (World Health Organization, Geneva, Switzerland).
