Dr. Ernst Spaan

Senior researcher. Theme coordinator: 'Improving access for the poor'

 Ernst Spaan is senior researcher and lecturer at the Department of Primary and Community Care of the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Center. His research interests concern population and development issues, health systems and health financing issues in developing countries. Formerly at the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI) and the Netherlands Institute for Health Services Research (NIVEL), he was involved in various research projects, sponsored by the EU, ESF, UNFPA, UNAIDS, WHO and Dutch Ministries, on themes such as migration and development, societal diversity, health systems development and health financing. His has worked in a number of countries in Asia, Eastern-Europe, Latin-America and Sub-Saharan Africa. Ongoing research is on the implementation of health insurance in Ghana and on the impact of health insurance in low-income countries.
