Gideon Emukule is Kenyan and working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention – Kenya country office as a statistician for the Influenza program since 2010. He is currently working on a PhD project that seeks to describe the morbidity and mortality burden of influenza-associated disease in Kenya, describe and understand the role of climatic factors in the transmission and seasonality of influenza, and lastly inform policy recommendations as relates to the overall direct and indirect cost of influenza-associated illness in Kenya. The overall goal of this PhD project is to generate information needed to inform influenza prevention and treatment policies, particularly those related to influenza vaccination in Kenya.
